Pre-season wins for Chelsea and Liverpool

Christian Pulisic scored his first Chelsea goals as the Blues beat RB Salzburg 5-3 in a pre-season friendly.

Having won 4-3 at Reading on Sunday, it was another entertaining game for Frank Lampard’s side, with Pulisic and Ross Barkley shining, while Pedro scored an outrageous goal.

Pulisic, operating on the left of the supporting trio in behind Tammy Abraham, opened the scoring with a well-taken low drive before winning the penalty which Barkley converted to make it 2-0.

The American then added a third after latching on to a wonderful ball over the top from Barkley and finishing well.

RB Salzburg pulled one back early in the second half, but just seven minutes later the highlight of the game arrived as Pedro, racing across the penalty area, met a Barkley cross and produced a stunning back-heeled volley which flew into the roof of the net.

Michy Batshuayi then scored a fifth for Chelsea, in between a couple of late Salzburg strikes.

Elsewhere, Tottenham beat Bayern Munich on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

The Premier League side had led 2-0, thanks to goals from Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen, but Bayern hit back by scoring twice, before Tottenham defender Juan Foyth was forced out of the action with what looked like a serious injury.

Paulo Gazzaniga, the Tottenham ‘keeper, saved from Jerome Boateng as the subsequent shoot-out went to sudden death.

After a few disappointing results in pre-season, Liverpool came from behind to beat Lyon 3-1.

Memphis Depay converted an early penalty for the French side, but Liverpool equalised through Roberto Firmino. An own-goal by Joachim Andersen then gave them the lead before Harry Wilson scored a brilliant third.

Klopp’s side face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.

Reiss Nelson scored from the spot for Arsenal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by French minnows Angers.
