E3 2018: FIFA 19 grabs the UEFA Champions League license
E3 – the big, annual video game convention – is currently underway in Los Angeles, and the first big reveal has already taken place. Turns out the rumours were true and EA’s FIFA 19 will indeed have the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in the game.
Here’s a little teaser trailer for you…
Two things instantly cross our minds. Firstly, it means that FIFA 19 will be the most complete version of the game to date, and will offer fans the one-stop shop for all their footie license needs. And secondly… poor old Pro Evolution Soccer has lost one of its few draws. We’ll have to wait and see how Konami’s football stalwart responds.
Anyway, EA seems intent on making the most of their newly acquired license. All of the teams that qualify for the group stages will be included, so say hello to new sides Viktoria Plzen and CFR Cluj. And as well as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, it’ll also feature the Super Cup, too, which pits the winners of both competitions against each other. Nice.
The competitions will also feature in FIFA’s popular Journey mode, which will bring an end to fictional footballer, Alex Hunter’s story. So expect cinematic cut-scenes with Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and more.
And thankfully, you can customise the both competitions to include your favourite, yet unlikely to qualify club. Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Real Madrid, anyone?
FIFA 19 is out September 28 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC
