It’s the movie most of us have been waiting ages for. And judging by the trailer, which came out at the weekend, it will have been worth the wait.

What could be more spectacular than an image of the Burj Khalifa plucked out of Dubai, and plunging into Central London? Well, that’s exactly what it shows in the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence.

The original Independence Day movie came out back in 1996 and was a global hit. It was based on aliens invading cities from Washington to Tokyo. Much of the original 1996 cast including Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch are back in action, though Will Smith – the star of the original – is not involved.

As for the plot of the new movie, well it looks pretty much exactly like the last one. After the aliens were defeated in 1996, they managed to send a distress signal to their masters in deep space, who now return to battle with humans again. This time around though, things are a bit better on earth, thanks to military forces which have also assembled on the moon.

The movie is due for release on June 24 2016, and promises to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
