TRAILERS: 5 films in UAE cinemas this week
XXX: The Return of Xander Cage (18)
It’s easy to be dismissive of dear old Vin Diesel. The shaven-headed, bicep-bulging action hero with an approach to enunciation that might make Benicio Del Toro consider vocal exercises isn’t going to be standing in front of a microphone with a piece of brass excoriating the next President any time soon. What he will do, though, is enjoy his massive house and great life and smile the corniest of smiles. He returns to the XXX franchise because, well, loads of people love it. Fair play.
In cinemas January 19
Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania (pg13)
The sequel to 2007’s Surf’s Up, a novel “mockumentary” spin on both surf movies and big-studio animations, WaveMania is pinned almost entirely on the novelty of recreating the magic with a cast packed with WWE stars – John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H and even Vince McMahon. Most voice the Hang 5 “rad” surf crew who visit rock penguin Cody Maverick’s island – and he has his sights set on joining in the group full time. Manic fun.

Rouhi (Go Home) (15)
This Lebanese movie focuses on Nada (Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani), a young woman who returns home only to find that she is a stranger in what she thought was her own country. She decides to move into her old family home, now an abandoned ruin, and piece her life back together – only the haunting presence of her grandfather, who disappeared during the civil war, leads her to rediscover her family’s dark history.
