FlyDubai plane crashes while attempting to land in Russia
A FlyDubai plane has crashed while coming in to land in southern Russia on Saturday, according to reports. The Boeing 737-800, which was travelling from Dubai to Rostov airport, is said to have crashed at aprox. 00.50 GMT.
The plane was making its second attempt to land due to bad weather, and a video posted online appears to show a large explosion as the plane makes its descent.
“flydubai regrets to confirm that flight FZ981 crashed on landing and that fatalities have been confirmed as a result of this tragic accident. The aircraft departed from Dubai International (DXB) at 18:20 GMT bound for Rostov on Don (ROV). The accident occurred in Rostov on Don at approximately 00:50 GMT,” the airline posted on its Facebook page.
“We are doing all we can to gather information as quickly as possible. At this moment our thoughts and prayers are with our passengers and our crew who were on board the aircraft.”
FlyDubai have not confirmed how many people were on board, or the exact number of fatalities, however, reports from Russian officials and new agencies claim that none of the 55 passengers and six crew survived.
