Incredible new tower planned for Dubai Creek
A masterpiece in engineering and design is planned for Dubai Creek. The new tower, which has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be built by Emaar.
Over the weekend, an exhibition in the Burj Khalifa showcased designs for the as yet unnamed tower. Sheikh Mohammed and Mohammad Ali Al Abbar, Chairman of Emaar, and Fadel Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding viewed proposals from a number of leading engineering companies, finally deciding on a design by Santiago Calatrava Valls – a Spanish designer with an impressive CV. Previous projects include Chicago Spire Tower, Calgary Peace Bridge and the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens.

It is not yet known what will be inside the tower, however, there will be an observation deck with striking views down to the creek, and spanning across Dubai.
The design of the tower takes inspiration from Islamic culture, the UAE’s heritage and modern architecture, in-keeping with Dubai’s reputation across the world.
This comes as part of multiple other projects which showcase Dubai Creek. It is hoped that this structure will become a tourist hub, and Gulf News even stated that Sheikh Mohammed said it would be an architectural masterpiece on par with Burj Khalifa and the Eiffel Tower.
We know what you’re all thinking – how tall will it be? The height hasn’t been announced yet, but Mohammed Ali Al Abbar said that it will be announced at a later date.
Work is expected to start in the next few weeks. Another exciting project to add to Dubai’s long list! Check out some of the other cool things we’ll see popping up around the city over the next year.
