SPONSORED: Dubai Opera welcomes rock legends Hugh Cornwell and Glen Matlock to the stage
Punk rock fans take note, because some of the genre’s biggest icons are coming to Dubai on September 20.
All in one night and all on one stage, Hugh Cornwell (The Stranglers) and Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) will perform a riotous set, with the support of guitarist Chris Spedding and drummer Chris Musto. Now that’s a rocking line-up.
But you’re in for more than just a musical treat if you sign up for the show at Dubai Opera, as the living legends will be telling the live audience personal anecdotes and funny stories from their laudable punk careers alongside their rocking sets, too. Who doesn’t want to hear scandalous tour secrets from the men themselves?
Tickets start from AED150 – although ShortList readers can be in with a chance of winning a pair.
As we countdown to the show, here’s a brief introduction to the bands behind the talents.
Jet Black, Jean-Jacques Burnel, Hans Wärmling and of course guitarist/vocalist Hugh Cornwell made up the original band in the mid-1970s, although the members changed across the years.
The band’s most recognisable hit is Golden Brown, which topped charts in the early eighties. Still active, The Stranglers have scored over 20 Top 40 hits in the UK across five (yes five!) decades.
The Sex Pistols made waves with their hit singles Anarchy in the UK and Pretty Vacant in the early 1970s.
Originally, the punk rock group comprised of Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and our guy Glen Matlock on bass.
Glen left the band in 1977 (he was replaced by Sid Vicious) and later formed Rich Kids and Glen Matlock & The Philistines, putting his inescapable musical prowess to good use.
