If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through the internet looking at cat memes and videos of people falling over, glancing at the clock every once in a while and wondering if it ever reach 6pm, you’re not alone. It turns out that you’re amongst the 83 percent of UAE employees who are bored of their jobs.

That’s more than eight in every ten people, so if you feel content, look around you. Some of your colleagues are probably looking at cat memes.

A salary benchmarking site called emolument.com has published research which shows that the UAE is amongst countries with the lowest job satisfaction score in the world. This places the UAE on the same level of boredom as Italy, followed by the USA on 74 percent, Singapore of 70 percent and Ireland on 69 percent.

It seems that the least bored employees in the world live in Switzerland, with only 51 percent feeling jaded.

Emolument explains, “With very high salaries, UAE professionals are more likely to tolerate boring jobs or companies, even when working six days a week.” Italy has a very different reason for workers staying in dull jobs, saying that the uncertain economy means that people don’t have the confidence to quit.

“Boredom at work is a key issue for firms trying to keep millennials engaged, especially in traditional industries such as accounting and legal jobs which can be perceived as dull while employers attempt to give young employees the satisfaction of making an impact in their work life in order to prevent them from moving on too swiftly,” said  Alice Leguay, co-founder & COO of Emolument.com.

“Without an inspirational leadership figure, or an exciting professional challenge to motivate younger team members, boredom will quickly settle in. Surprisingly, according to our figures, CEOs struggle to enthuse their teams, having fallen prey to boredom themselves, probably due to being tangled in administrative and managerial processes with frustrate their desire to implement a vision and lead their business.”

The study was conducted with 1,300 professionals, and their findings show that, across the board, in every country, whether you’re a junior or senior member of the company, you’re likely to be bored.

With that in mind, here’s aGIF of a cat who is just as bored as you are...
