Instagram LIVE video launches in the UAE
The latest Instagram news is hardly surprising, given that it’s owned by Mark Zuckerberg, but in a move similar to Facebook, the social media site has launched live videos – and it’s available in the UAE from today.
Since launching Instagram Stories, there are now 150 million people using the function every day, and Live will be an extension of this.
How does it work?
Going live is easy – all you need to do is swipe into the stories camera and select the “Live” mode. As soon as you start recording your video will be shared in a similar way to Instagram Stories (but with a “Live” toggle).
It differs to Facebook Live slightly as you aren’t given the option of saving your video to Stories afterwards. Once you’re finished, that’s it, your video will disappear.
Wherever you see a “Live” toggle on an Instagram story, you can watch what your friends are up to. But if you’re looking to discover more live video, you can head to the “Top Live” feature in the Explore page.
Although the feature is newly launched in the UAE (and now available to Instagram’s global community), is has been available in other parts of the world over the last month. Calvin Harris went live from his studio at home, asking fans questions and answering them in real time. Selina Gomez is anopther celebrity that has made use of the feature – she spoke to fans about where she is in her life…
Instagram wrote a blog post, saying: “Today we’re excited to share that live video on Instagram Stories — a new way to connect with your friends and followers right now — will be rolling out to our entire global community over the next week. From real-time makeup tutorials to live DJ sets, it’s been exciting to watch as the community shares new sides of their lives.”
Are you brave enough to give it a try?
