Eight lane tunnel to open in Dubai this week
Attention all motorists, the eight lane tunnel on Sheikh Rashid Street is set to open on Thursday, May 3.
The tunnel that is located at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Street leading to Al Shandagha northward and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street leading to the intersection of Al Kuwait Street, aims to ease the flow of traffic coming from Al Garhoud bridge, Bur Dubai and Oud Metha.
Starting May 3, If you are going from Al Garhoud Bridge to Al Shindagha tunnel or Port Rashid and vice versa, you can use the new 4-lanes broad tunnel on Sheikh Rashid road, which will help in reducing the traffic in the area.#DubaiProjects#DubaiRoads pic.twitter.com/R8geamdfUX— RTA (@RTA_Dubai) April 28, 2018
Speaking on the news, Director General of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Mattar Al Tayer said: “The objective is to develop integrated solutions of roads and marine network that are safe for users, and capable of matching the development plans and demographic growth in the Emirate.”
The project is latest in the RTA's ongoing intersection project that aims to improve Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed road.
In Feburary, the RTA opened two major bridges on the two roads, which noticeably changed the volume of traffic heading to Dubai World Trade Centre.
The first bridge is located on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. It consists of two lanes, which run in both directions.
The second, is a one-lane bridge that streches from Zabeel Street towards Sheikh Rashid Street.
