Attention all travel buffs, you will soon have to pay a fee for bags that require manual handling at Dubai International Airport...

The fee applies to all bags that are overweight and those that do not adhere to standard baggage size.

The charge introduced by Dnata aims to cover the cost of the manual handling service

"Dnata has updated its standard ground handling terms and conditions with carriers, to cover the additional manual handling services for “out of gauge” baggage – a policy that is now being strictly enforced at Dubai International Airport.

"Carriers may decide to ask dnata to collect associated charges directly from their passengers. Passengers should check their carrier’s website for further details," a spokesperson for dnata explains.

Adding that out of gauge (OOG) baggage includes TVs, flat panel displays and other items that can damage or slow down the baggage system.

The exact charge is yet to be announced, however Air India has reportedly put the fee at AED45 per piece of baggage.
