Emirates and Flydubai announce first flights under new partnership
Emirates and Flydubai have announced that they will codeshare on 29 routes as part of their partnership that was announced in July of this year.
As part of their agreement, the two Dubai-based airlines will operate an “expansive codeshare agreement with increased schedule alignment, fleet and network sharing to more than 200 destinations,” they previously revealed in a joint statement.
Passengers will be able to book their flight to the 29 codeshare destinations which include Kuwait, Salalah, Belgrade, Baku and, Prague from tomorrow, Tuesday, October 3. It is important to note that while passengers can book their flights from tomorrow, the flight date has to be from October 29.
Aside from being able to book codeshare flights, passengers will also receive a number of benefits such as added baggage allowance and more. Emirates Skywards members can earn Skywards miles and Skywards Tier Miles on codeshare flights with Flydubai, while Premium members can receive additional baggage allowance.
The good news doesn’t stop there. According to an official statement released by Emirates Airline, passengers will also benefit from a reduced minimum connection time of 120 minutes between Emirates’ home in Terminal 3 and Flydubai’s in Terminal 2.
Speaking on the news, the chairman and CEO of the Emirates Group and the chairman of Flydubai Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: “This is an exciting first step in unlocking the benefits of the partnership for passengers who will have the opportunity to enjoy the unique advantages each airline offers as well as greater choice and flexibility when connecting via Dubai.”
He added: “This is just the start and as we expand the partner network in the coming months we will open up more opportunities for our passengers to explore the world.”
As part of Emirates’ and flydubai’s combined venture, both airlines will also work together on a number of initiatives which range from network planning to airport operations to frequent flyer programmes.
While the partnership is only in stage one, it is hoped that by 2020, the combined network of Emirates and flydubai will reach 240 destinations, which will be served by a combined fleet of 380 aircrafts.
