Costa completes first drone delivery on Dubai's Kite Beach
You know the struggle – you’re on a beach, your water has gone warm, you’re sweating profusely, and the thought of walking to the nearest café feels like a slow form of torture. It seems we might have finally have a solution to this first world problem…
Costa has completed its first successful drone delivery in Dubai, sending cool refreshments to people on Kite beach from the Jumeirah Beach Road store. The drone, dubbed the coffee-copter, took the new Frostino and Cold Brew range to customers.
Shemaine Jones, head of marketing at Costa Coffee UAE, commented: “Dubai is known for leading the way with innovative technology and drones are the next frontier for instant delivery. Our customers told us they’d love to have their favourite drinks dropped off by drones, so we’re super excited to have successfully tested this service, enabling beach-goers to enjoy ice cold beverages without leaving the comfort of their sun-loungers.”
This comes after a survey showed 82 percent of Dubai residents would use a ‘Drone Drop’ service to have food and beverages delivered.
The Drone Drop trial gave people a look at what delivery services might look like in the future, allowing them to call and order one of Costa’s new drinks, and receive their order straight to the beach within 15 minutes.
