Burj Khalifa New Year's Eve firework show

If you’re planning to spend your New Year’s watching the fireworks at the Burj Khalifa, you may want to read this…

Emaar, the property developer behind the iconic building have just announced that they will be scraping the building’s infamous firework display for something a bit lighter – quite literally.

According to a video posted on Emaar’s official Instagram account, @downtowndubai, the world’s tallest building will be treating hundreds and thousands of guests to a light show instead.

If you’re suddenly worried, don’t be. The show “Light Up 2018” promises to be like “nothing you’ve seen before”.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, here’s our pick of the three best spots to watch the show.

BurJuman Centre
While it may not be slap bang in the middle of all the action, the view is, in our opinion, just as good and, you don’t have to worry about queuing up to get  on the metro...

The Dubai Mall
While this spot contradicts our first location (see above), you will get to see the brilliant Dubai Fountain show. Our advice – bring a foldable chair and wear some comfy shoes.

At.mosphere
Perched on the 122nd floor of Burj Khalifa, there’s not much to fault about this place. You’re spending New Year’s Eve in the world’s tallest restaurant with food that's just as impressive as the venue and the view. It’s AED2,900 per person and runs until 1am – the area should, hopefully, be less crowded by then.
