Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and Police HQ decided to raise the limit after studies were conducted in line with the Speed Management Manual.
“The manual contains procedures, stipulations and flexible engineering standards governing the setting and assessing of speed limits on various roads of Dubai to bring them in line with the latest international practices,” Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, explained.
“The Manual charts out the correlation between the optimal speed limits and the traffic flow. It takes into consideration the basic engineering factors relating to the non-compliance with the set speed limits, and advocates the use of best traffic enforcement measures,” Major General Advisor Mohammed Saif Al Zafein, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operation Affairs, Dubai Police added.
