The JW Marriott Marquis is set to be dethroned as the tallest hotel when Gevora opens its doors tomorrow, Monday, February 12.

The hotel, located on Sheikh Zayed road, stands at height of 356 metres (1,167.98 feet) and has over 525 rooms.

Aside from great views of the city, the five-star hotel also boasts an impressive swimming pool, gym and state of the art spa.

It will also have five international restaurants and its room offering will include more than 230 deluxe rooms, 265 one bedrooms and over 30 suites.

The hotel which promises to “boast the best of Middle Eastern hospitality and exclusivity” will be dry, meaning that no alcohol will be served in its vicinity.

Once open, the hotel will add yet another world record to the city which already has titles like world’s tallest building and the fastest police car to its name.

Most recently, the city nabbed the record for the largest cup of karak tea.

The award was scoped last month when a massive cup that measured over 3.66 metres in length made its debut at Global Village.

The container featured over 5,000 litres of hot tea which was made using 155 kilograms of tea leaf, 360kg of sugar, 270kg of milk powder and 4,5000 litres of water as well as ginger, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.

The hotel also joins the likes of Ain Dubai, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and the Deira Islands Night Souk as being one of the many projects scheduled to make their UAE debut this year.

If you're new to Dubai, here's what you need to know about each location.

Ain Dubai
Located in the soon to be complete Bluewaters Island, Ain Dubai or “Dubai Eye” as it was once known, will be largest Ferris wheel in the world. At 210m high it will eclipse New York’s 198m attraction, and will have the capacity to carry more than 1,400 passengers at a time within its 48 capsules. The flight of the wheel will be an impressive 48 minutes long and will give you an ever-changing view of the city. Aside from the observation wheel, the project will feature a number of dining and retail facilities as well as a 4D cinema that will enlighten guests  about city’s rich history and culture.
