McGettigan’s Comedyfest
At the time of writing, post-holiday blues have well and truly set in for Team ShortList and many of our readers. That’s why McGettigan’s annual Comedyfest, which is back for its eighth year, is a much-welcome January distraction. Four of Ireland’s top stand-ups will take to The Baggot stage (that includes the MC, Fair City star and twice Irish Standup of the Year, Eric Lalor, we’ll have you know). Meanwhile, we’ll all be feasting on free barbecue burgers and beverages, soaking in Fred Cooke’s skits, Karl Spain’s bants and Barry Murphy’s alter ego (see sidebar, right, for more details of the comedians). Tickets are AED50 for entry (before 10pm) and come with one free burger and a selected bevvie.

The 150-metre high structure offers unrestricted views of “old” and “new” Dubai and is connected via a 93-metre wide bridge. There’s also a museum on the ground floor where visitors can explore how the emirate transitioned from it’s humble fishing village beginnings to the modern metropolis it is today.

Salt’s Surf house
One of Dubai’s favourite burger joints has setup shop in a new location at La Mer. Salt’s Surf House is their boldest venue yet, with a huge industrial surf shop vibe where guests can relax in the chill-out or lounge areas while gorging on Salt’s signature sliders. Speaking of which, there are two new exclusive Wagyu sliders here. The Black Melt that’s served with a barbecue-sriracha sauce in a black bun, and the Big Salter, a double patty beast that will kill your hunger in no time. Oh, and they serve a great nitro coffee, too.
